Doctorate Description: Family violence is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Paramedics are believed to frequently encounter patients experiencing such violence, abuse or neglect. The response of paramedics can impact on early recognition and referral to care and support. This thesis explorers the role of paramedics and ambulance services, examines the educational and training needs of paramedics, and presents a new guideline for paramedics to respond to intimate partner violence.
